Systems Engineer

Location: Colchester, VT

Job Description

VIP is looking for a Systems Engineer to help build out, maintain, and troubleshoot our rapidly expanding infrastructure in Colchester, VT.  You will be part of a talented team of engineers that demonstrate superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security on the VIP systems. Qualified systems engineers will have a background in IT, computer engineering, or systems engineering and analysis with 3 to 5 years experience.  The primary role will be the support of x86 hardware running Windows and Linux (mostly VM based), networking equipment (primarily Cisco), and other supporting applications within our infrastructure.

  • Enterprise level skills and awareness are vital. Being very detailed oriented with an understanding and appreciation for change control and proper documentation needed.
  • A proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Linux & Windows based environments is required. Knowledge of general infrastructure concepts such as DNS, DHCP, Active Directory is also necessary.  Additional responsibilities will include the support of reverse proxy servers (ie. HAProxy), web servers (ie. Tomcat), and other applications within our infrastructure. Experience in process automation and/or scripting highly desirable.
  • Initial duties will include user management via Active Directory, backup of our Windows & Linux servers, and provisioning of new servers.  Duties will expand to configuration of reverse proxies, support of applications (in-house, open source, and enterprise software), and general infrastructure configuration.
  • Once a deep understanding of the VIP infrastructure is achieved, it is expected that the individual would assist in researching new tools and services, and would be able to run a deployment project from beta testing to full deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure including x86-based servers, applications running on those servers, and the services the infrastructure provides.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Provide IT-based support to VIP employees

IT Operations Support Technician

Location: Colchester, VT

Job Description

The IT Operations Technician has primary responsibilities as the first response, triage, and Level 1 troubleshooting contact within IT Operations and Service Management. The IT Operations Technician performs technical troubleshooting and diagnosis of root cause, and performs the steps necessary to fully log the incident, including the troubleshooting steps taken to resolve the incident. When incident resolution is beyond the expertise of the technician, has responsibility to effectively escalate to the appropriate technical area for Level 2 troubleshooting and resolution.

UI/UX Designer

Location: Colchester, VT

VIP is looking to grow its newly established design team.  This is a new role that will join a team of two designers and help expand our resources to additional development teams at VIP.  A keen eye for design is a must, as well as experience with graphic design software.  This role will help promote design culture within VIP and communicate designs effectively with stakeholders, developers, and designers.


This person will need to be flexible and accommodating as we establish new capabilities at VIP.  We are a long standing company, but are only recently incorporating UX/UX design in our processes.  Exploration and experimentation is still needed to determine how designers will best fit into existing development teams. 


We are looking for someone with more than just strong design skills and need a person that is diplomatic and can build strong relationships.  Understanding and being able to communicate how design adds value to our business is crucial. 


The VIP design team also works on documenting and evolving VIP’s general visual presentation.  UI/UX work are our priority, but our branding efforts also provide various assets to our marketing.  It’s our job to make sure public-facing materials are in harmony with our expanding UI libraries.


As a member of the UI/UX Design team, your initial responsibilities may include:

  • Applying our new design standards to VIP applications with mockups and/or prototypes.
  • Writing documentation for our expanding design standards.
  • Evaluating VIP applications’ compliance with accessibility standards and making recommendations based on those evaluations.
  • Identifying opportunities to enrich and optimize current development processes with design services.
  • Performing heuristic evaluations of VIP applications.
  • Conducting basic usability tests and/or user research to resolve design decisions within development teams.
  • Creating illustrations or graphics to support marketing efforts as needed.

The ideal candidate will have these skills and experience:

  • BA in Graphic Design, Visual Design, Web Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or other comparable field of study.
  • 2+ years of UI/UX design experience.
  • Proficiency with Sketch and Abstract.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
